In the Indian answer to Google Glass, Bangalore-based Mistral Solutions has designed a wearable computing device that is bagging marquee clients including the Los Angeles Police Department. “Google Glass is operated by touch, here everything is done by voice,” said Anees Ahmed, founder of Mistral, who has been working on wearable computers for more than five years with a few large technology companies.

A team of ex-Nokia engineers is launching a smartphone based on the former world No. 1 cellphone maker’s old software, hoping to grab a share of a highly competitive market. The Jolla handset’s Sailfish operating platform is based on MeeGo software, which Nokia abandoned in 2011 when it switched over to using Microsoft Corp.’s Windows system. 

The 4.5-inch phone features an eight megapixel camera, supports fast 4G Internet connections and includes Nokia’s HERE maps covering 180  countries.

European anti-trust regulator is looking at whether Internet major Google’s popular smartphone platform Android is violating fair competition norms. Android is one of the widely used smartphone operating platforms.

Going by estimates from global research firm Gartner, Android accounted for more than 80 per cent share in the smartphone operating system market during the third quarter of 2013.

The South Korean electronics giant is in a quiet push to make its Tizen operating system a part of the technology lexicon as familiar as Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS. The first developer conference in Asia for Tizen wrapped up Tuesday after a two-day run, bringing together app developers and Tizen backers from Samsung, Intel and mobile operators. Samsung promised to give out $4 million cash to the creators of the best Tizen apps.
